The Great Michigan Read Everyone in Michigan Reading the Same Book, At the Same Time!
The Great Michigan Read is a community reading program for the entire state. With a statewide focus on a single literary masterpiece - Ernest Hemingway's The Nick Adams Stories - it encourages Michiganians to read and rediscover literature.
RTDL joins over 100 communities participating in Michigan's first one-book, one-state program for adults on Wednesday, May 14 with a discussion of The Nick Adams Stories, Hemingway's coming-of-age tale inspired by his boyhood experiences.
The Great Michigan Read is presented by the Michigan Humanities Council, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Additional information is available at the MHC website, http://www.greatmichiganread.org.

Redford Recreational Readers
If you're a reader who would like an opportunity to discuss books with others, join the Redford Recreational Readers, our new book discussion group for adults. We will be meeting the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7 pm, in one of the 2nd floor meeting rooms. Each month you'll have an opportunity to meet fellow book lovers, share in group discussion of a selected book and suggest titles for future discussions.
Registration is not required, but the library has limited copies of each book. If you sign up in advance at the Adult Reference Desk, we'll make every effort to obtain a copy for you from another library.
Our current book discussion titles:
May 14 The Nick Adams Stories by Ernest Hemingway The famous "Nick Adams" stories show a memorable character growing from child to adolescent to soldier, veteran, writer and parent - a sequence closely paralleling Hemingway's life. Copies of the book and reading guide are available for those interested in joining the May 14 discussion. They are free of charge, at the Reference Desk, while supplies last.
